NYC '08 FAQ
• updated items

What does "FAQ" mean?
FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions." These are things people want to know (or should) all the time. In this case, it also means, "Eurasia NYI is on top of things."

What is NYC?
Nazarene Youth Conference, or NYC, is a gathering of Nazarene youth from a specific world area. NYCs are held all over the globe, at various intervals, with varying numbers of people from varying places. Kiev will be the second-ever all-inclusive regional NYC for Eurasia.

What happens at NYC?
All sorts of crazy goodness. NYC is designed to be a time when young people from tons of different backgrounds can come together to discover a world bigger than the one we've been living in, to meet old friends and make new ones, to celebrate together what God's doing in our lives, to learn more about what it means to belong to Christ, and to walk a bit more of the journey together (with or without sleep).

Who can attend NYC '08: Kiev?
As a Eurasia event, the conference is open to anyone from ages 15 to 29 who is part of NYI in Eurasia. We'd love to have some of our brothers and sisters from our partner regions (Southwest USA and Central USA: contact your regional president for more information), as well as a few other guests we'll invite specifically. Anyone else from off the region should inquire by e-mailing us.

When and where is NYC '08?
The event will be held at a site in Kiev, Ukraine. The conference will be held 2-7 Aug., and all participants are welcome (and encouraged!) to join one of the ministry teams that will be lending a hand around Ukraine the following weeks (8-19 Aug.). You're welcome to attend the conference only, but members of the ministry teams must be part of the event beforehand.

Is there a theme for the event?
Yep: "One Mission" (just like the logo says)! We hope that together, we'll learn more about what it means to be part of God's kingdom and mission. Jesus asked his followers, "What is the Kingdom of God like? What can I compare it to?" This is an invitation for people–like us–to imagine and to discuss God's purposes for his world and, within that, our role as his people. Our dream for NYC '08 is that together, we will discover new ways of thinking, understanding and speaking of God.

What will the event include?
Our hope is that NYC '08 will be God-filled, fun, exciting, challenging, eye-opening, refreshing, renewing, provoking, sleepless, crazy... We will have services focused on worshipping God and seminars related to Christian living, social justice, youth ministry, discipleship, creative ministry (art, drama), practical teaching on issues related to young people and SO MUCH MORE! Obviously, there will be lots of free time and sports as well...

How much does it cost?
The conference costs
170, which covers all meals, planned activities and ground transportation from your point of arrival in Kiev (airport, train station, bus station). A non-refundable deposit of 35 is due with all applications; the remaining €135 is due no later than 20 July 2008.

Participants are all responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.

Can I pay in a currency other than Euro?
Yes. Just enquire about the exchange rate at the time of payment.

Will there be ministry teams following NYC again?
Yes! Teams will depart on 8 and 9 August to their sites and return to Kiev for debriefing before final departure on 19 August. Team members must be at least 18 years old at the time NYC begins and must submit two confidential reference forms together with a separate application [coming soon!]. Applicants are subject to the Eurasia NYI Council's approval, and should also note that it is compulsory to attend NYC to participate in ministry teams.

Will there be childcare at the event?
Participants can bring children; childcare will be available, but only for a portion of the day. Anyone who choses to bring children will be responsible for them.

I want to come! What should I do now?
Download and fill out the registration and medical release forms and return them to the NYC team or to your area NYI leader (if you're in an area that will coordinate travel as a group).

So, if I'm looking at travel arrangements...?
Plan to arrive by mid-afternoon on 2 Aug. The event begins that evening. We will be staying at a youth camp an hour away from Kiev, so plan your travel accordingly. If you're only attending the conference, schedule your departure after noon on 7 Aug. If you're joining a ministry team, plan to depart on 19 Aug. Air: travel to Kiev International Airport (code KBP). Train: travel to Kiev. Coach: e-mail us for directions.

[Note: check with your area NYI leader before booking travel. Many will plan to travel as districts or areas, so communicate thoroughly with local leaders before planning anything solo.]

What if I find a cheaper ticket that arrives early or leaves late?
Good for you! You're on your own for accommodations and meals, though. (If you e-mail us, we'll be happy to give you a list of local hostels.)

Do I need a visa?
It's very possible. Since visa regulations change constantly, contact your local Ukrainian consulate for the most recent information. Click here for more information.
